The Association aims to develop national, civic and cultural awareness, to preserve Polishness and inculcate patriotic attitudes. The specific objective of the Association is to maintain the memory of the heroic defense of the fortified line "Wizna", between September 7 and September 10, 1939, by 720 Polish soldiers of the Independent Operational Group "Narew" under the command of Cpt. Wladyslaw Raginis against more than 40.000 Germans. Wizna is sometimes referred to as Polish Thermopylae. In the implementation of a number of projects the Association has collaborated with the National Cultural Center (Narodowe Centrum Kultury), the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN), the Ministry of National Defence (MON) and other organizations.

The university is one of 29 Russian universities which received the status of "National Research" - it means more attention to scholarship that at the same time should be more life-oriented, i.e. have practical significance. Belgorod National Research University is located in the Russian-Ukrainian borderland, that`s why one of its aims is to facilitate regional development and contribute to Russian-Ukrainian exchange inter alia by means of participation in different projects of the euroregion "Slobozhanschina" composed of the Belgorod (Russia) and Kharkov (Ukraine) regions. In other words, we contribute primarily to the social aspect of creating a borderland region “Slobozhanschina” which means, of course, also common remembrance.

goals

The CFCCS is an educational center dedicated to the comparative analysis of societies in conflict. Working primarily within the context of the conflicts in the former republics of Yugoslavia and Palestine/Israel, the Center provides opportunities for university students, scholars, activists and educators to critically engage in the study and analysis of conflict, its transformations, and various roles taken up within conflicts. In so doing, the Center offers theoretical and practical resources for those working to be effective agents of social change. We achieve our goals by offering comparative interdisciplinary frameworks for understanding dynamics within societies in conflict. THEMATIC FOCUS We explore the dynamics of conflict through an inter-disciplinary comparative approach that analyzes the intersections of nation, religion, gender, and class. In particular, our research interests and study seminars focus on the following themes: - Memory and its role in conflict analysis and conflict transformation - Transitional Justice and critical approaches to peacebuilding and reconciliation - Education for peace - Nationalism and Identity Transformation - Role of State and Civil Society Institutions

Centropa is a Jewish historical institute dedicated to preserving 20th century Jewish family stories from Central and Eastern Europe and the Balkans. Since 2000, Centropa has interviewed 1,200 elderly Jews still living in the 15 countries between the Baltic and the Aegean (from Estonia and Russia to Greece and Turkey), but we never used video nor did we focus primarily on the Holocaust. Instead, we collected and digitized thousands of family photos. Our interviewers spent up to twenty hours with each respondent, asking them to paint for us a picture of the world they grew up in - as well as the world they rebuilt for their families after the war (we also dutifully record everything our respondents wish to share with us about the Shoah). The interviews are audio taped, transcribed, translated and entered into our searchable, keyworded online database 'Jewish Witness to a European Century.' Most stories are in English, and we have separate websites and search facilities in German (for our Vienna-based interviews) and in Hungarian. Historians and other researchers are welcome to contact us to read our original transcripts.

goals

- connect us all to the lands of Jewish heritage by creating programs about the entire 20th century, not only about the period of the Third Reich; - use these programs in innovative ways so that Holocaust education will have relevance everywhere; - to combat antisemitism and Holocaust denial by creating programs that students carry out themselves, and share with other students across borders, oceans, and ethnic divides.

Civic Academy Foundation - Sighet Memorial to the Victims of Communism

The Civic Academy Foundation came into being as a result of the Council of Europe’s suggestion to set up a foundation to create and administer the Sighet Memorial project, which was adopted by the international forum. The Civic Academy Foundation was established on 21 April 1994 by Ana Blandiana, together with another one hundred and seventy-five founding members. Among its goals are civic education, youth education, a good knowledge of Romania’s past, and, to this end, the restoration of the contemporary Romanian history that was falsified during the period of the communist dictatorship. The main project is the Memorial to the Victims of Communism and to the Anticommunist Resistance. The Memorial to the Victims of Communism and to the Anticommunist Resistance established in 1993 founders: Ana Blandiana and Romulus Rusan The Sighet Memorial is organised and administered by the Civic Academy Foundation (the legal entity) The Memorial is made up of the Sighet Museum and the International Centre for Studies about Communism, based in Bucharest The Memorial to the Victims of Communism and to the Anticommunist Resistance was established in 1993 when the well-known Romanian writers Ana Blandiana and Romulus Rusan presented the project of such a Memorial to the Council of Europe who decided to take it under its aegis. A non-governmental organisation, the Civic Academy Foundation, founded in 1994 by personalities of the Romanian public life, assumed the development of the project. The Memorial is made up of the Museum – located in the former Stalinist political prison of Sighet – and the International Center for Studies about Communism – based in Bucharest. The Civic Academy Foundation is the legal entity, which organises and administrates the Memorial to the Victims of Communism and to the Anticommunist Resistance. The Sighet Memorial is a museum dedicated to the victims of the communist system and it also illustrates the attitude of those who resisted the communist system, both in Romania and in seven other countries that were satellites of the Soviet Union during the Cold War. The creation of the Sighet Museum was preceded and then supported by the activity of the International Centre for Studies about Communism. It gathered oral history testimonies, and, in parallel, documents, photographs of the former political prisoners from the communist period. Created in 1993 by Romulus Rusan, the Centre managed to renovate and fit out the Sighet Museum, and to gather the databank needed to fill it with realistic and credible materials.
