Remember. August 23: European Day of Remembrance for Victims of Totalitarian Regimes

On the European Day of Remembrance for Victims of Totalitarian Regimes we introduce you to the stories of those impacted by Nazi and Communist totalitarianisms. Watch our new spots on-line.

As every year on 23 August, ENRS recalls the victims of totalitarian regimes. On that date, the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact was signed in 1939. The pact concluded between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, with a secret protocol which launched the Second World War, established a framework for the co-existence of two totalitarian regimes: Nazi and Communist.

Mala Zimetbaum and Edek Galiński is a history of an exceptional love story. After an unsuccessful attempt at escape, both perished in the German concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Peter Mansfeld was the youngest victim of repression after the 1956 revolution in Hungary. He was hanged at barely the age of 18.
