Elżbieta Ficowska in Conversation with Melissa Fleming

Holocaust survivor Elżbieta Ficowska visited the United Nations Headquarters on the occasion of the exhibition Between Life and Death: Stories of Rescue during the Holocaust.

Born in the Warsaw Ghetto in 1942, she was rescued at just six months old, smuggled out in a wooden box concealed among bricks. With her was a silver spoon engraved with her name and date of birth – a precious link to her identity and family.

In an interview with Melissa Fleming, Ficowska recalled her parents’ sacrifice and paid tribute to the extraordinary courage of those who risked their lives to rescue Jewish children during the Holocaust. Reflecting on the importance of preserving these stories for future generations, she shared a powerful message about remembrance, compassion and the need to seek love and goodness, even in the darkest of times.
