Dr. Oľga Gyárfášová

Oľga Gyárfášová is associate professor at the Faculty for Social and Economic Sciences, Comenius University in Bratislava. She graduated in sociology and obtained PhD in comparative political science. She is also a founding member and long-term collaborator of the Institute for Public Affairs, independent public policy research think-tank based in Bratislava.

In her research she focuses on broad variety of social phenomenon, among them minority rights, gender equality, political culture and collective memory. She is author, co-author and co-editor of dozens of academic studies and publications and has been working on several international comparative projects exploring historical memory in Visegrad Four countries (My Hero, Your Enemy); Antisemitism, extremism and populism as well as consequences of social nostalgia. She focuses on the collective memory of the normalization period in Czechoslovakia (1969-1989), with a special interest in women´s actorness and memory. Within this research area Ms. Gyárfášová published a book How We Lived in Years of Normalization. Interviews with Female Actors of Resistance (2024) and collaborated on exhibition Everyday Courage - Polish, Slovak and Czech Women in the Anti-Communist Resistance (2025).
