Łukasz Kamiński

Łukasz Kamiński is a historian, assistant professor at the Institute of History at the University of Wrocław and director of the National Ossolinski Institute. From 2000 to 2016, he was affiliated with the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) and served as its president (2011–16). From 2017 to 2021, he was president of the Platform of European Memory and Conscience (PEMC).

His academic work focuses on the recent history of Poland and Central and Eastern Europe, particularly the history of communism and anticommunist resistance. He also studies the mechanisms of collective memory. He is author of over 600 academic and popular science publications, as well as co-editor (with Grzegorz Waligóra) of a six-volume history of independent self-governing trade union Solidarity, 1980–9 (2010).

He is a member of the boards of various memory institutions, including the Pilecki Institute, the Polish History Museum, the Museum of Memory in the 20th Century, Prague, the Polonika Institute, the Memory and Future Centre and the Silesian Centre for Freedom and Solidarity.
