To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, a conference “War and Peace 1945 – 2015” takes place in the European Parliament. Watch live broadcast
The defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945 laid the foundations for durable European peace, which was formalized by the Helsinki Accords of 1975. Now its very existence is challenged, as Putin’s Russia is redrawing Europe’s borders by force and attempting a new Yalta.
Against this backdrop, the conference “War and Peace 1945 – 2015” will reflect on the politics of the commemoration and on how to preserve the European peace order and to defend European values.
Timothy SNYDER, a well renowned historian and author of “Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin” will be a keynote speaker. Panellists include Françoise THOM, Andrey ZUBOV, Jacek TEBINKA, Boris REITSCHUSTER and Roland FREUDENSTEIN.
