A documentary film “Freedom and Peace Movement” ("WiP-owcy") directed by Jacek Talczewski will have its first public screening during a conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of creation of the movement “Wolność i Pokój” (Freedom and Peace) on 26 May in Collegium Civitas in Warsaw.
“Freedom and Peace Movement” is a polyphonic story about a group of pacifists and anti-communists, who thirty years ago were united by the objection to the military service and the love of freedom. The founders of “Wolność i Pokój” (WiP) in their manifesto demanded not only the release of those imprisoned for rejecting the military service, but also respect for human rights, protection of civil liberties and minority rights. In its peak, WiP had several hundreds of members and crowds of supporters of its protests and happenings. Members of WiP came from very diverse backgrounds – there were anarchists, punks and hippies, liberals, Catholics and atheists, who together created this unique movement. The story of the movement is shown through the memories of the members of WiP and illustrated by a collection of never published archive materials.
The film was produced by the European Network Remembrance and Solidarity and the National Centre for Culture.
