A discussion on the events of 1956 will be held in Warsaw on 13 October.
The year 1956 was a year that “shook the world”. The events of 1956 in Hungary and Poland showed how much people of Eastern Europe wanted to overthrow the communist dictatorships. These confrontations had an impact on the history of the whole Eastern bloc and became a benchmark for other movements in countries under Soviet dominance striving for self-determination and freedom. It also anticipated the fall of the Iron Curtain in 1989 and its legacy is present in contemporary memory in Europe and beyond.
To commemorate those dramatic events, ENRS, History Meeting House and Hungarian Cultural Institute in Warsaw invite you to a debate which will take place on 13 October 2016 at 11:00 am in Sejm (Polish Parliament) building at 4/6/8 Wiejska Street in Warsaw, Poland.
