In this creative and playful workshop, the participants will be invited to explore the serious issue of contested/conflictual heritage data in the (digital) museum records. Taking a starting point from monster definition that points to monsters having corporality and affinity to borders, the workshop invites participants to construct their own monsters who can assist them in their work with contested heritage data.
The workshop has four phases: 1) Introduction to monsters and why they might be helpful with contested heritage data troubles, 2) making the monster, 3) naming and addressing the monster, 4) closing reflections.
All participants will receive instructions as to how to run monster workshops within museum co-creation practice or with their colleagues to explore and make tangible data troubles. The workshop will not solve your issues, but will provide an opportunity to give shape to data troubles so that they can be addressed with further actions.
The workshop takes place during the 12th European Remembrance Symposium on the 24 May 2024 at 10 AM in Warsaw, Poland.
