B-Shapes presentation in Warsaw at the 2024 edition of In Between?
Are rivers and mountain ranges actual unstoppable borders? What are the historical processes behind border formations? What are borders used for and how are they perceived?

These are the research questions that prof. Martin Klatt, the B-SHAPES coordinator, has posed to the participants of the In-Between? 2024 project. The short introductory presentation to the research that can be done in border regions was based on the academic work that three of the B-SHAPES work packages do: Euroscepticism in border regions (WP3), Borders shaping minorities’ perceptions of the European project (WP4), and Border landscapes as heritage (WP5).

The young historians, anthropologists and sociologists participating in In Between? will leave after the preparatory workshops in Warsaw to two regions: Masuria in Poland and the Finnish-Estonian borderland. After exploring an example of a European-wide project on borders (Martin Klatt, B-SHAPES), taking part in workshops on oral history (Marta Kurkowska-Budzan), a soundwalk around Warsaw (Marta Michalska), and the production of podcasts (John Beauchamp and Jarosław Kociszewski) they are ready to conduct their research, record interviews and produce podcasts!
