“Between Life and Death” Exhibition to Tour the UK in 2026

In January 2026, the international exhibition Between Life and Death will begin a tour across the United Kingdom, bringing moving personal accounts of courage and moral choice during the Second World War to British audiences.

Presented by the European Network Remembrance and Solidarity in cooperation with local partners, the UK tour will open at the Forum, Elmer Square in Southend-on-Sea from 6 to 27 January 2026. Over the course of the year, the exhibition will continue to Worcester, Redditch, Loughborough, Salford, Huddersfield, as well as the London boroughs of Camden, Sutton, and Barnet. The exhibition highlights stories of rescue from fifteen European countries. The UK chapter focuses on the accounts of Eva Paddock, who arrived in Great Britain as a child on a transport organised by Sir Nicholas Winton, and Ida and Louise Cook – two London sisters who helped Jewish refugees before the war by smuggling their valuables across borders and supporting them after their arrival in the UK. In recognition of their actions, the Cook sisters were honoured as Righteous Among the Nations by Yad Vashem in 1964.

Between Life and Death pays tribute to individuals who, despite the risk of imprisonment, deportation, or death, chose to help persecuted Jews during the Holocaust. Through the combined perspectives of rescuers and survivors, the exhibition explores acts of moral courage and the complexity of human relationships under extreme wartime conditions, placing each story within its wider historical context.

The exhibition is a joint initiative of ENRS, the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw, and the Silent Heroes Memorial Centre in Berlin. First presented in Brussels in 2018, it has since been shown at numerous venues across Europe and in Japan.
