Join us in the search for local histories in the borderlands of Europe by participating in the 2026 edition of the In Between? project!
Are you passionate about history, memory, and borders? The In Between? Summer School invites students and young professionals (18–26) in the arts, humanities, and social sciences to explore the traces of the former inner German border.
Join us this autumn, from 8 to 18 September 2026, in Lübeck, Germany, a city that once stood directly at the edge of the Cold War's frontier, to explore local histories, uncover stories of the past, and create a new episode of the In Between? podcast.
In Between? is an educational project running since 2016, focused on exploring local histories in Europe's borderlands — regions shaped by the turbulent history of the 20th century, including wars, geopolitical transformations, and mass migrations. Participants conduct oral history research, recording interviews with local experts and community members to produce a podcast episode about the border region they visit.
