The day commemorates the Černová massacre - a shooting that took place in Černová, Slovakia on 27 October 1907 in which 15 people were killed and many were wounded after gendarmes of the Kingdom of Hungary fired into a crowd of people gathering for the consecration of the local Catholic church.
