Call for Papers: Propaganda. Visual Mechanisms of Social Influence

The European Solidarity Centre invites submissions for the interdisciplinary conference “PROPAGANDA. Visual Mechanisms of Social Influence,” which will take place on 12–13 March 2026, in Gdańsk, Poland.

The conference aims to explore the multifaceted power of images as instruments of persuasion and social influence. By examining visual media, from architecture and painting to film and digital communication, the event seeks to investigate how visual forms shape perceptions, emotions, and collective attitudes across different historical and cultural contexts.

Scholars and practitioners from a range of disciplines, including art history, media and communication studies, sociology, psychology, and history, are encouraged to participate. The organizers welcome papers addressing such topics as the evolution of visual propaganda, the role of persuasive imagery in political and ideological contexts, the mechanisms of influence in digital media, and the cultural functions of images in constructing national and collective identities.

The conference will be held in Polish. There is no participation fee, and selected papers will be published in a peer-reviewed post-conference volume.

Submission deadline: 31 December 2025
Notification of acceptance: 30 January 2026
