ENRS implements comprehensive Gender Equality Plan

The European Network Remembrance and Solidarity (ENRS) is pleased to announce the development of its Gender Equality Plan (GEP), a robust blueprint aimed at further fostering an environment of inclusivity and equality. The plan builds on the ENRS’s commitment to gender equality in all aspects of its operations and projects.

ENRS has always actively pursued equality through a policy of inclusive recruitment, work culture and project development that consciously addresses gender dynamics. The new GEP was catalyzed by European Commission guidelines and shaped by a dedicated working group, reflecting the ENRS institutional structure. The group was assisted by Professor Joanna Konopińska's - the representative for gender equality at the Medical University in Bialystok and co-author of one of the firsts GEP adopted in Poland. Following a comprehensive investigatory stage, several objectives and institutional commitments were drafted.

The GEP focuses on several key areas:
•   Organizational culture and work-life balance: Ensuring a supportive workplace that accommodates the diverse needs of all employees.
•   Gender balance in leadership and decision-making: Promoting equal representation in positions of influence within the network..
•   Career progression and recruitment: Advocating for transparency and equity in hiring and advancement opportunities.
•   Prevention of gender-based violence: Implementing stringent measures to eliminate harassment and enhance security for everyone.
•   Integration of gender dimensions in projects: Adapting educational content to reflect gender equity, aligning with the ENRS's academic and educational mission.

The development process included a detailed survey disseminated among the staff, which confirmed the importance of gender considerations in project execution and institutional partnership formation. Key findings revealed a strong awareness among staff about the significance of gender balance in both internal and external activities, including each stage of a project cycle.
Moving forward, the ENRS is committed to implementing the recommendations of the GEP with continuous monitoring and adaptation. This document not only signifies a step forward in pursuing the ENRS’s internal policy but can serve as an inspiration for similar institutions aiming to deepen their commitment to equality.
