Establishment of the European Coal and Steel Community

With the signing of the Treaty of Paris on 18 April 1951, the Netherlands together with Belgium, France, West Germany, Italy and Luxembourg established the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC). This organisation regulated the industrial production of the member states. The ECSC was the first step in the process of European integration and is regarded as the predecessor of the European Union.
