Farewell parade for International Brigades

On 15 November 1938 a farewell parade was held in Barcelona for members of the International Brigades.

The International Brigades consisted of foreign volunteers from over 50 countries who fought on the Republican side against the Nationalist forces during the Spanish Civil War. They were recruited and organized by the Comintern (Communist Internaitonal) - an international organization that advocated world communism.

The brigades had to be formally withdrawn from Spain in 1938 as the Prime Minister Juan Negrín negotiated with Great Britain and France in hopes to get their military support.
