February Strike of 1941

On 25 and 26 February 1941 a general strike in Amsterdam was organized by the Dutch Communist Party. The strike was meant as a protest against the persecution of the Jews, the anti-Jewish laws and the Nazi occupation in general. In total 300,000 people participated in the strike. It is regarded as the first big and open resistance of the Dutch people against the German occupier.
