Call for papers: Genealogies of Memory 2026

We are pleased to announce the open call for papers for the 16th Genealogies of Memory Conference, co-organised by the European Network Remembrance and Solidarity (ENRS), the National Institute for the Study of Totalitarianism and the „Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași.

Theme: The Lasting Presence of the Past: How Trauma Lives on Across Generations?
When? 23–25 September 2026
Where? Iași, Romania

This year's conference explores the processes, practices and media through which trauma is passed between generations, with particular focus on Central and Eastern Europe in comparative global perspective. Topics include:
• Transgenerational trauma transmission
• Hegemonic narratives, counter-memories and silences
• Artistic and reconstructive memory practices
• Digital mediation of trauma and memory

Interdisciplinary and comparative proposals are especially welcome.
The conference language is English, there is no conference fee, and accommodation is provided for accepted speakers.
