On 19 June 1967 Władysław Gomułka, first secretary of the Polish communist party, delivers a speech condemning the activities of the "Zionists" in the People's Republic of Poland. This signals the start of the anti-Semitic campaign directed by a faction of communist nationalists (known as the partisans), led by Minister of Internal Affairs General Mieczysław Moczar. In 1967-70, over 12,000 people of Jewish ancestry leave communist Poland.
