Grandparents. Grand Stories. Family Treasures — 2026 Contest Now Open

We are pleased to announce the launch of the 2026 edition of the international contest “Grandparents. Grand Stories. Family Treasures.”

Every family preserves objects that carry memories and emotions passed down through generations. Photographs, letters, medals, documents, clothing, tools, and other everyday items often bear witness to the dramatic events and social changes of the 20th century. This year’s edition invites participants to explore the stories hidden behind these family treasures and reflect on their personal and historical significance.

The contest encourages intergenerational dialogue by inspiring conversations with grandparents and older family members. By combining personal memories with historical context, participants help preserve family histories while gaining a deeper understanding of the past.

The competition is open to elementary and secondary school students, university students, and educators from around the world. Submissions should include a written description in English (up to 5,000 characters) and at least one photograph of the featured family treasure.

Entries can be submitted until 1 March 2026, 23:59 CET. Winners in each age category will receive €1,000, along with international promotion of their work.

Full contest rules, submission guidelines, and consent forms are available on our website.
