We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Prof. Csaba Gy. Kiss, a distinguished political scientist, cultural and literary historian, and long-time friend and collaborator of the ENRS.
Prof. Kiss was one of the foremost scholars of Central European literature, myths, and national symbols. A prolific writer and comparatist, he authored numerous essays and studies exploring the cultural and intellectual heritage of the region. He was also a dedicated educator, teaching at the Eötvös Loránd University and serving as a guest lecturer at universities in Zagreb, Nitra, Prague, and Warsaw.
As a co-founder of the Hungarian Democratic Forum and a member of various Hungarian-Polish and Hungarian-Slovak historical commissions, Prof. Kiss combined rigorous scholarship with deep civic engagement. His contributions to cultural dialogue across national boundaries earned him numerous awards.
Until 2019, Prof. Kiss was a valued member of the ENRS Academic Council. His guidance helped shape our scholarly mission and strengthened our commitment to fostering dialogue and understanding in the region.
We remember Prof. Csaba Gy. Kiss with gratitude and admiration. His legacy will remain an enduring part of Central Europe’s intellectual and cultural landscape.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing his wisdom and kindness.
