Open Letter Calls for Defence of Historical Truth and Memory of Victims

The European Network Remembrance and Solidarity (ENRS) has received an appeal from the initiators of a new open letter addressing concerns about the stigmatization of Polish victims of the Nazi German regime and the desecration of the memory of Jewish victims of the Holocaust. The authors invite members of the academic and civic communities to join them in signing the document, which is available in full below.

In their message, the initiators emphasise that they act across ideological lines to defend historical truth, academic integrity, and the preservation of the memory of victims. They call on institutions responsible for Holocaust education and public history to reflect on their role and responsibility in shaping informed understanding of this period.
Their concerns focus on recent presentations of Polnische Bürgermeister und der Holocaust, a book by Grzegorz Rossoliński-Liebe. The book has been widely promoted outside Poland but, according to the authors, raises significant questions about scholarly reliability. They note that both the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews and the Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw declined to host or promote the publication, and that the Institute of National Remembrance has issued a highly critical review.
The initiators call for collective action in support of ethical research, open dialogue, and intellectual responsibility. Those willing to sign the letter may contact list@fundacjakulskich.org.pl with their name, academic degrees, and institutional affiliation.
