You can now register for the 15th conference within the Genealogies of Memory ‘ What remains from the Second World War? Remnants, Memories and Narratives Revisited’! The conference will take place 17–19 September 2025 at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences, Berlin.
As the last living witnesses of the Second World War fade, this international memory studies conference explores what endures - materially, culturally, and symbolically. Scholars from across disciplines will examine the war’s legacy through themes such as the materiality of memory, evolving post-war memory cultures in light of present-day challenges (including Russia’s war against Ukraine), and case studies on symbolic ruins, trauma, and contested narratives.
The conference offers a space for interdisciplinary dialogue on how remnants of the war continue to shape historical consciousness today. Researchers in history, sociology, anthropology, cultural studies, and related fields are encouraged to participate.
