Romania signs the Armistice with the Allies

In Moscow, the Romanian delegation signed the Armistice Agreement with the Allied powers on 12 September 1944. Following this convention, Romania would fight against its former ally, Germany, until the end of the Second World War in Europe.

The Armistice Agreement along with the Paris Peace Treaties of 1947 provided a legal basis for the Soviet military presence in the country, which lasted until 1958 and is often interpreted by Romanian and Western sources as the Soviet occupation of Romania.
