On Saturday, 10 October 2026, the town of Gernika will host the final performance of this year's Sound in the Silence project, and everyone is invited to attend.
Sound in the Silence is an interdisciplinary remembrance project that brings together high school students from across Europe with a team of international artists to explore 20th-century history through creative means.
This year's edition, running from 3 to 11 October 2026, takes place in Gernika, Basque Country, and focuses on the bombing of the town on 26 April 1937 and the broader history of the Spanish Civil War.
Over the course of the project, students will explore the history of the bombing, the disinformation that surrounded it, and the experiences of the civilians who lived through the violence and its long aftermath under Franco's dictatorship. Working with an international team of artists, they will translate this research into an original performance combining rap, movement and their voice, to be presented at the project's public finale.
The project is organised by the European Network Remembrance and Solidarity (ENRS), in cooperation with the Gernika Peace Museum, EUROM and Fundació Solidaritat UB.
