"Socialism with a human face" in Czechoslovakia

In 1968 the Czechoslovak Communist Party adopts an "Action programme" (Akcni program), which restores civil liberties, reforms the political system, including giving extensive powers to Slovakia, and makes adjustments in foreign policy. The programme, dubbed "socialism with a human face" (socialismus s lidskou tvari), causes great concern among the leaderships of the Soviet Union and the other countries of the Soviet bloc.
