On 27 February 1938, the Constitution which formed the legal basis for the royal dictatorship of King Carol II came into effect. The king's prerogatives were significantly increased. The Constitution was written by the jurist Istrate Micescu and was created in the spirit of corporatism, drawing inspiration from fascist Italy.
