Register for the conference ‘WWII – 80 Years After: Challenges for Historical Education and Commemoration’

Date: 2-3 June 2025

Venue: Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), Budapest.

Eighty years after the end of the Second World War, educators, historians, and cultural professionals face the growing challenge of how to teach about this pivotal moment in history to new generations with no living connection to it.

This international conference and workshop, organised by the European Network Remembrance and Solidarity (ENRS) and the National Remembrance Committee (NEB), invites participants to explore how to navigate complex issues such as occupation, genocide, displacement, and memory through innovative educational methods and cross-European dialogue.

Highlights include panel debates on divergent Eastern and Western European WWII memories, a theatre performance on Hungarian Gulag survivor Placid Olofsson, interactive workshops on personal narratives in teaching, and a screening of the ENRS documentary Sound in the Silence.

The event will be held in English and Hungarian.
