Travel with us to four borderland regions of Europe to discover local history! The recruitment has started!
The recruitment of participants for an educational project of study visits called “In Between? Searching for local histories in European borderlands” has begun. The initiative targets young people aged 18-25 and aims to improve the knowledge they have on the historical processes that shaped 20th-century Europe.
The goal of the ENRS, main organiser of the project, is to equip young Europeans interested in history with tools and methods for examining and archiving the past, including the documentation of oral accounts and audio-visual materials concerning history and the identities of Europe's border communities.
The participants selected in the recruitment process for the first edition of the project are going to take part in workshops delivered by experts in most recent history, oral history, anthropology and archival studies. Participants will be trained in basic methods of account collection and photograph digitisation. After the workshops, they will embark on week-long study visits to border places in four regions of East-Central Europe. The visits should result in collecting interviews and visual documents which reflect the past of a given region as well as in-depth reflection making the local historical narratives a part of a broader context of European history. A summary conference is to be held in Warsaw after two project editions planned for 2016.
