Remember. August 23

On this day we pay homage to victims of totalitarian regimes. Learn how you can contribute

On 23 August we observe the European Day of Remembrance for Victims of Totalitarian Regimes. It was on that day in 1939 that the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact was signed – an agreement between the Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union that paved the road towards the tragedy of the Second World War and its consequences: concentration camps, gulags, Holocaust, crematoria, labour camps, and the many years of Cold War and further totalitarian regimes.

On 23 August we want to pay homage to all the victims of the totalitarian regimes of 20th-century Europe. In order to express our remembrance and respect, European Network Remembrance and Solidarity prepared symbolic campaign 'Remember. August 23'.

We encourage you to join us by downloading on-line commemorative materials and sharing them via social media or by wearing a symbolic pin that will be handed out on 23 August by cultural and historical institutions in 11 Central and Eastern European countries.
