We invite visual arts amateurs and professionals, enthusiasts of history, cultural anthropology and sociology aged 18 – 25 to apply for the online edition of the international project In Between? – image and memory, which focuses on the relations between visual arts and memory studies. The project, taking place between 3 and 18 August 2020, will consist of a webinar, individual online masterclasses and a final photo competition. Application deadline is 5 July 2020.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s edition of In Between? will be slightly different. While we cannot travel across Europe and meet live, yet we can still ensure a vivid dialogue between participants. When state administrative borders are restored and people cannot travel abroad, we would like to encourage young artists to find traces of memory in their immediate neighbourhood, their own towns and own districts. What testimonies of unique local history may that new perspective reveal?
This year’s formula assumes that after qualification, a group of 15 persons will be offered two webinars and individual online masterclasses with Katarzyna Sagatowska – a Polish photographer, lecturer, organiser of art events and artistic curator of the project.
The works of the participants will be evaluated by an international Jury gathering artists, historians and members of the ENRS team: Martin Kollár (Slowak artist), Dr Zsuzsanna Agora (University of Pécs), Prof. Marcela Sălăgean ( Member of the Advisory Board, ENRS), Dr Annemarie Franke (Projects Department, ENRS), Rafał Rogulski (Director of ENRS), Dr Ewelina Szpak (Academic Department, ENRS). The authors of the winning works will be granted with vouchers for photo equipment. An exhibition of all the works will be presented on the ENRS website and social media channels and its institutional partners.
How to apply?
Students aged 18-25 interested in the culture of remembrance and photography may apply for the InBetween? – Image and Memory 2020 providing the ENRS with an explanation of their idea for the future work inspired by the subject of memory and (local) borders, as well as a description of their previous academic – artistic activity, their interests and particular motivation to enter the project. Examples of photographic works are welcomed (maximum 3 photos).
